How to Onboard New Hires with Google Apps for Work

It pays off to make new employees feel welcome and supported. Here is how we do it at Google using Google Apps.

Teams have folders for new hires in Google Drive containing all the resources a new member of the team might need.

There may be a welcome video introducing the team, Docs with helpful links such as café menus, shuttle schedules, internal Sites with business overviews, team goals, etc.

Letting a new employee know what Google Groups to join is very important as Groups will give access to important documents. Same thing with Google Calendars.

Using Google Sheets, we also build on-boarding check lists to make sure nothing is forgotten.

Finally, Hangouts are very important to ensure all members of a team who are not in the same office can quickly get to know one another and start working effectively together.
